Creel lives on her late father’s farm with her brother, aunt, uncle, and her cousins. The family is very poor, and their crops don’t do well. Finally, the aunt devises a strange plan to marry off Creel and get lots of money at the same time. The aunt’s dream: Creel will be sent to the lair of the dragon right outside of town, and the dragon will capture her! The lord’s son will set out to rescue Creel, defeat the dragon, and take Creel home and marry her. Then, he will generously invite the rest of the family to live with Creel and himself. What actually happens: Creel is sent to the lair of the dragon. The dragon talks. The dragon has a name: Theodoarus. The dragon does not want to eat Creel. Rather, he is annoyed. Creel begs him for a piece of his hoard, so that she may leave for the King’s Seat, the country’s capital, and never bother Theodoarus again. The dragon is confused, because Creel wants gold, and Theodoarus collects shoes. Apparently, all dragons collect different things, and NONE of them collect gold. But Theodoarus does let Creel take a pair of shoes. There is something strange about the shoes she picks, and Theodoarus is reluctant to have her take them. But he honors his promise, and Creel leaves with the shoes. She walks onward towards the King’s Seat. On the way, Creel is almost captured by bandits, but is rescued by a mysterious dragon named Shardas who drops a stained glass window on the bandits. I can’t tell you more, because I don’t want to spoil the story. You’ll have to read it to find out.

What I like: Feniul! He and his dogs are so cute and funny.

What I don’t like: Earl Sarryk. Then again, I don’t think anyone would!
